Why Am I Posting the Outline?
I’m posting the outline because I want to savor the opportunity of inviting you - reader and/or fellow writer - into the process of creating a novel. I don’t always outline but I felt pulled to do it for this project and thought, hey, if I can get feedback as early as the outline stage then why not? That said, I may not post the whole thing.
I’m going to start drafting next week and should have a first draft of the first chapter ready to post next Friday.
Let me add a caveat: the fun thing about how this entire project started was that it was unexpected and sprang from a team effort through an exchange of comments on an IG post. (Check my IG to see how that came about.)
I wanted to stay with the spirit of that spontaneous combustion of inspiration and post fresh chapters each week for potential readers to check in with and leave feedback on so that we might grow the novel together.
Whether that happens or this is a one-woman effort doesn’t really matter to me at this stage.
I want to post the novel as a way of sharing the writing process, rather than shut it away for however long it takes to complete the story and get it into a shape that feels up to whatever the par should be. You get me?
So, the chapters will need editing as I go. The outline means that the core of the story should be in place (I see the shape of it quite nicely) but details may change, need clarifying, demand some deepening etc. That’s the point of this to me: that you get to be with the story as it develops.
Also, you don’t have to read the outline at all! You’re naturally welcome to skip it if you don’t like spoilers.
Love from me.
